Goal for the day: For students to practice skills related to image and story
We're starting out today with a few reading selections that speak to what we talked about yesterday with regard to point of view. We'll also introduce what "setting" can do for a story. Setting includes the landscape and weather, put also the historical period, the cultural milieu, and the general atmosphere that the story takes place within. Students will fill out the Setting Questionnaire about their own story to get them thinking about how they use the setting to enrich their stories.
Most of the day, however, will be spent working on projects.
Tomorrow we're going to talk comedy.
Assignment for Friday, September 26th
Read the first chapter of Nick Hornby's About a Boy
Finish up your packed image, reading vandalism, and the story arc assignment. And get working on that draft of "Telling a Story." The first draft is due on Tuesday!
