Goal for the day: For students to find powerful images in each other’s writing
Most of today will be spent calling out images out powerful images that you find in your own and others writing.
We can’t describe packed images in our writing unless we can see packed images in our mind’s eye. With the photos, you are slowing down your thinking and being more precise with your imagination. Thinking with precision and writing with precision go hand in hand. The packed image we worked on yesterday is an exercise that I think will bear fruit if you stick with it. With that in mind, this will be a rolling assignment, something that you can come back to until you’re satisfied. We’ll hear from a few people today who for whom their images sparked a story.
But most of the class will spent in small groups, reading each other’s Writing to Truth assignment and helping the others see the images that are resonating with peers. I have a worksheet that you’ll fill out on other students’ stories.
Get ready to move onto character and point of view tomorrow!
Assignment for Tuesday, September 9th
Due Friday: Read The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara
