We'll open today's class with a project update. There's developing news.
Participatory Art piece - the art group is coming together around a group art piece that would be a Batik mural of the river that different high schools would help with in advance of the event and that people could work on during the day of the event.
1872 Mining Law Update - We want to get a report from our 1872 mining law group about their conversation with Aaron from Earthworks in Washington DC and John Whitney from Michael Bennett's office
Partnership with Voices of the Animas and Animas Watershed Partnership - The Animas Watershed Partnership is a collaborative of groups from Silverton to New Mexico. They are very interested in partnering with us and would co-sponsor an event with us in Farmington on December 1st or in Durango on December 3rd. They can help us get a venue in both places and advertise. If we go to Farmington, they'd love for us to collaborate with one or more of the high schools down there. I'll explain a few more of the details. Meanwhile, Becky from FLC and Voices of the Animas is coming at lunch today to talk about how they can collaborate with us.
We'll need to decide on Monday where we want to go. We'll have more information on the high schools in Farmington by then and we'll review the pros and cons on Monday and make a decision.
Because we need to do this on Monday, I'm pushing the due date for the paper out to Wednesday. We have to do this project maintenance to keep moving forward, but I want to make sure you get the time you need to do your best work.
Finally, there are two other announcements.
There is a river meeting/forum this Sunday at the fairgrounds from 12 to 2 p.m. that a lot of the stakeholders are a part of. It's sponsored by San Juan Basin Health.
Also, tomorrow, Friday, StAC is going to get a tour of the country clerks office where they are counting the votes currently coming in on the school board elections and the bond issues. If you'd like to get the 30-45 minute tour and see what happens after you vote, let me know and I'll hook you up.
After we go over this, we'll have paper writing time.
During break, I want to meet with our 1872 mining law group. I'll want your attention again after break for 5-10 minutes to both give you some more information from my trip to Silverton and give you a sample essay structure to help you with organization. Here's the handout.
Homework due Monday, November 2nd
