Goal for the day: Create a calendar for yourself over the next two weeks
Good morning! One of the ancillary goals of our True Wealth unit is to help you understand the Economic headlines you see in the paper. I want to spend just a minute talking about the headlines in today’s New York Times: Wal-Mart is Raising Wages and the new government in Greece has requested a loan extension from the European Union, which the EU Finance Ministers have rejected. Two headlines with important implications, what do they mean?
The rest of today is full-on workday. Here’s what you should be doing:
Business Group
· Dig into the Reference USA database and other Durango Public Library resources
· Find trade associations using this webpage and see what they have to say
· Look at model business proposals using The Gale Virtual Reference Library. Use this portal page with your Library ID # to enter, click on Title List once you enter and then browse the Business Plans Handbooks for plans that are similar to yours.
· Think through major questions for your proposal – think especially about your inputs
· Especially consider how your business will contribute to a resilient economy
Economic Development Group
· Start looking for similar solutions in other communities
· Identify local organizations that might be sources of information – contact them
· Start working on the community description – what specifics do you need about gardening, urban agriculture, Main Street, etc.
Economic Policy
· Start digging into the situation you want to address
· Identify local organizations working on your issue area
· Start researching solutions in other areas
· Do an academic search on your issue area or potential solution
I’m going to be asking about the deadlines for your calendar
Homework due Friday, February 20th
Nothing specific but you should be starting to work on this and your senior project research on your own time.
