Goal for the day: To develop a personal definition of resilience
Good morning! Driving in today I realized that today will likely be the last Socratic Seminar of your high school career. Today is about making it really good.
After showing this video from Saturday Night Live on gentrification, we’ll spend the first half of class back in the groups you ended with on Friday. I want you to go through the seminar prep questions so you’re primed for a strong discussion.
If you finish early, you can send me a question for the seminar.
After break we’ll do a full group seminar on the concept of resilience. As we turn our focus from economic development to economic policy, this is a bit of pause. “Resilience,” along with “wealth,” is one of the key words we’re trying to understand with this project. Your business or development project or policy proposal must speak to “resilience,” which is why our goal for the day is for you to come up with your own definition of this term.
Homework due Tuesday, February 10th
Journal entry seminar reflection (5 points formative) – Write a paragraph answering these two questions:
· What is your definition of resilience?
· What specific comments or exchanges in the seminar contributed to your understanding of this concept and how it applies to our local economy?
Read Outline Assignment # 3 and come with any questions or concerns tomorrow.
