Goals for the day:
· To understand how to turn a topic into a research question
· To gain a clear idea on the format of a senior project presentation
You’ll start today as an audience for Tony’s senior project presentation. Alas, Tony is leaving us for Germany, but is impending departure gives you an opportunity to see what the final presentation will be like. Matt and I will debrief the presentation in front of you so you can get a better sense of what we’re looking for.
After a break, the task is to give you a clear idea of how to take your topic and create a strong research question. We’ll look at a list of strong research questions and discuss what they have in common.
I’ll give you another sheet that will go over the characteristics of strong research questions and give you a chance to practice taking vague, unfocused questions and transforming them into questions with potential.
If there’s time, you’ll draft a research question for yourself and get feedback from your fellow students.
Your homework for next time will to bring in a finished research question.
Homework due Tuesday, January 20
Finish Outline Assignment #1. Use the True Wealth Outline Overview for guidance on what to include in your assignment.
Homework due Friday, January 23
Bring in a draft of your research question
