Goal for the day:
· Define your vocabulary words for your deep reading assignment
· Work out the thematic key to the article you are doing your deep reading upon
· Read and annotate a second article
We’re going to start today with a bit of oratory. Many are calling President Obama’s speech this past weekend at the foot of the Edmund Pettis Bridge in Selma to mark the 50th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday” the best of his presidency.
We’ll be watching portions of it to start our class over the next several days because it touches on much of the content and themes that we've covered in our class. And because I'm old-fashioned in that it's important to listen and think critically about what our leaders are saying to us. Here is link we’ll be watching from. We’re starting at 10:30 on the video and going until 15:30 today.
Next, I want you all to be clear on what’s due for senior project during the rest of the month.
Due Monday, March 16th – Deep Reading Packet. In place of the bibliography of five sources you’ve read, I’m asking at minimum for evidence that you've actively read two additional articles. “Actively” means that you've annotated the text and/or taken notes. Evidence consists of notes summarizing the main points, filling out this worksheet, or a conference in which you talk to me about the articles and how they relate to your central question.
Due Friday, March 20th – Here is where you send me the bibliography with five sources, you’ve actively read. I’ll trust that you’ve “actively” read these articles but I want to see and file the bibliography.
Due Monday, March 30th – Evidence that you’ve actively read at least three additional academic articles. Again, evidence consists of notes, the worksheet, or a conference with me.
The goal is to have you ready to start outlining your paper the week we get back from Spring Break, meaning your research is complete and you don’t have to do any more reading.
If you don’t want to read three additional articles over spring break, knock them out ahead of time.
Homework due Thursday, March 12th
Keep working on your exhibition visual!!
