Learning target: We can describe our individual tasks for the group project to complete by the end of the week and how they contribute to the whole. 1. We’ll start today with a report from Allee, Shane, and Domi about our adventure last night travelling down to Navajo Prep. We had a really good time AND we have been invited to go back next Tuesday for a whole day at their school ending in Thanksgiving dinner with all their students and families. We’re looking now at Silverton trip on Monday during the day and an all-day Farmington trip on Tuesday. 2. I need a hard count for who wants to go on which trip. I’m then going to see who I can clear from classes with the other teachers. Part of the reason for the hard count is because I have to get adult volunteers for transportation. This is going to be challenging but once parents understand what we’re doing, I think we can get it done. |
3. I’m then going to explain the homework. I’ve heard some rumblings questioning how much of an effect can we really expect to have. I want you to take a wider perspective on what we’re doing. So, I want you to read one of the following articles and complete this starter worksheet by Friday. If you turn in this starter, I will add five make-up points to your content score of your grade. These articles highlight both liberal and conservative causes that seemed futile at the start but ended up being enormously influential. Pick one, read, and complete the worksheet:
4. We’ll then refer to your individual assignment sheets to get you focused on what you need to accomplish over the next three days. We have a lot to do and now that we have our date, time, and venue, we need to hit the jets and get stuff done. You’ll need to fill in this Google doc by the end of class.
5. I’ll then turn you loose to make some magic.
Homework due Friday, November 13th
Read this article on the election in Myanmar. We'll be skyping with a friend and aid worker Zachary Ray tomorrow morning who is in Myanmar at the beginning of class tomorrow.
Finish your chosen article on No-Win Situations that Were Won (Keystone XL pipeline, Modern Conservative Movement, the Tea Party) and answer the starter. (due Friday)
- Article about the seven-year struggle against the Keystone XL oil pipeline that Obama just rejected
- Article about the rise of the modern conservative movement in the 1960s
- Article about the rise of the Tea Party movement (Part 1 and Part 2)
