Today kicked off with a visit by Kim, who went over the Naviance system and important information about college applications and scholarships. People then broke down into project groups can began to work on getting an outline/storyboard together. I emphasized the importance of having a thesis for your video and thinking about the kind of evidence you can use to support your main points. Use the rubric as a reference and checklist to make sure your video has what it needs.
No one finished their storyboard and had me cross them off and so I'll see everyone in class next Wednesday to give me your thesis and game plan.
Toward the end of class, I passed out a sheet explaining the essay assignment for First Amendment project and the rubric that I will use to grade the essays. I will be using the grading standards from a college-level writing program to evaluate your essays. This means that organization, syntax, and proper punctuation is essential. Papers that are difficult to understand and show consistent errors will not pass. I am more than happy to review an outline and/or rough draft before the due date. You must bring a draft of the essay to class on October 23rd for peer review. You will have the 22nd, most of the 23rd, and the 24th to write in class, but I encourage you to work on the essay before then so that you aren't rushed at the end.
