Learning Target: We can apply our understanding of the Constitution to the system of checks and balances
Today, I’ve had the request that you be able to talk about the class amongst yourselves for 20 minutes or so about the direction of the class. I stated on the first day my primary belief around learning is that students take charge of their own education. So, I think it's a fine thing to have time to talk amongst each other about the class. Especially for seniors this kind of organizing and leadership is my ultimate goal. The clearest articulation of where I'm coming from is the section on the Collaborative Classroom in the syllabus.
We’ll see where the class goes from there. I wanted to share ideas I had coming out of yesterday’s starter. I also wanted to share this graphic that gives a picture of how the different components of the class should work together. My hope is that this will help what we’re doing feel more cohesive.
We have ready to go the work in pairs to create our Constitution in Plain English. Reference notes on Article 1 and Article 2 will help you interpret the legalese. I also have this handout on the system of checks and balances that our constitution sets up. This is core content for the first unit we are doing on decision-making.
This should take us to time. We’ll have a clearer idea of homework and what we’ll do on Friday after tomorrow’s class.
Homework due Friday, September 18th
Go to this Google Sheet and type in something you want to know about mining pollution and the Animas River.
