Learning Target: We can identify different perspectives on the Animas River Spill
Today we're going build on the articles you read yesterday and create a foundation of knowledge about the river spill.
First, I'll show you the scatter plot of everyone's political beliefs. Your starter is to write about the fundamental value that guided your selection of where you are politically on the map.
After this, I'll give an overview of what we're going to do the next several days. I'll also pass out permission slip you need to bring on Friday to the Senior Retreat.
Before break I'm going to assign you an individual, group, business, city, town, or country to research. These are all stakeholders in the Animas River spill. Use Google to find news articles, videos, or reports that give you background on this stakeholder. Use the questions on this worksheet to guide you. You'll use what you find to decide how important they are to the issue and put them on a stakeholder map we'll draw on the board.
After break, you'll get into one of four different groups: legal, political, economic, or socio-cultural. If everyone's in class, we'll have five in each group. You will work together to research this perspective or angle on the Animas River spill. You can use this worksheet to structure your time.
As you read your article, I want you to pay attention to the way the author uses symbols (i.e. stories or metaphors or numbers, assigns causes, or describes the effects of the spill). To show you what I want you to look for, we'll go over the articles from yesterday together.
Homework due Thursday, September 24th
Finish your article and the worksheet
